Alexander Semin makes his long awaited return to Washington when the Carolina Hurricanes visit the Capitals for the first time this season.

Semin was drafted by Washington in 2002 and played for seven seasons with the club. However, his inconsistent play made the Caps front office frustrated and the team let the dynamic forward go in the 2012 offseason. "It was tough to lose his scoring ability when he wanted to play," said Caps forward Troy Brouwer about Semin. "But all in all, I think we've been doing well without him."

He added, "Some nights you didn't even know if he was gonna come to the rink," Brouwer said. "It's tough to play alongside guys like those because you don't know what you're gonna get out of 'em."

Semin has been solid for the Carolina Hurricanes this season scoring four goals and 10 assists in 17 games this season. He scored his fourth in Carolina's recent 4-2 win over the New York Islanders on Sunday night. The Hurricanes were down 2-0 until the final moments of the second period when the Staal brothers Jordan and Eric tallied to tie the game. "This was a good win because we didn't quit and played a solid third period," Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller said. "I feel great for Bobby because tonight was his strongest game for us yet. He's a good skilled player who moves the puck well, and he was solid on both ends of the ice."

The Capitals have turned around their season after a woeful start. Alex Ovechkin scored his first hat trick since Jan. 22, 2011 in the team's 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. "The chances are there. Sometimes I feel that the puck just doesn't want to go in," Ovechkin said. "Today, it was that kind of game that almost every shot goes in, or at least it feels like that. It's kind of nice."

Predictions: The Hurricanes are looking confident and have been more consistent all season long; they will win 4-2.
