The countdown to the "50 Shades of Grey" movie has begun. Now that questions regarding its summer 2014 have been put to rest, fans are now desperate to learn who will play the lead of Anastasia Steele.
Currently at the top of the list is 'Gilmore Girls' star Alexis Bledel, but other contenders include 'Twilight' sweetheart Kristen Stewart, Mila Kunis, "Harry Potter" actress Emma Watson and 'Game of Thrones' star Emilia Clarke. Despite the roundup of Hollywood darlings however, Bledel still continues to lead fan polls.
It makes sense that she would be the fan favorite, as her bashful blue eyes and innocent glow are reminiscent of Ana herself. Her shift from her good girl image in 'Gilmore Girls' to the risqué role in "50 Shades of Grey" would also parallel Ana's transformation in the book. Fans know that Ana is an innocent virgin until she becomes Christian's student sex slave.
In a recent interview, Bledel told fans that she has indeed considered playing the role of Ana. "Certainly. And everyone in my life has asked me about it, because once something's online, a lot of people consider it to be factual in some way. I've had to have conversations about it with pretty much everyone at one point or another, but I don't think the script is even finished yet," Bledel told Zap2It.
Bledel neither affirmed nor denied her interest in the role, but it's clearly on her mind. Fellow frontrunner Stewart has remained silent on rumors concerning her participation in the movie. Stewart was the original inspiration behind Ana's character, but many fans claim the movie would be relentlessly compared to "Twilight" and would take away from the powerful seductiveness of "50 Shades of Grey."
As anticipation builds for the 2014 movie release, "50 Shades of Grey" fans will have plenty to obsess over and keep their minds occupied. Even after Universal Studios chooses an Ana, there will still be debate over who will play her lover, Christian. As for now, fans can continue to drool over the news of the movie's release as all the missing pieces are found.
