At 6 p.m. EST Sony will be holding its "Future of PlayStation" event in New York. While the company has kept mum on what exactly that entails, speculation has thrown itself behind the rumor that it will indeed be the unveiling of the next-generation PlayStation console.

The event is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. EST, and you can enjoy watching the live stream here:

If you're having trouble viewing it on our page, you can visit UStream, or head over to the PlayStation blog for a live stream as well. Sony will also be updating its social network streams, both on Twitter, under the hashtag #playstation2013, and on Facebook. If all the rumors hold true, then this will indeed be the first look at truly next-gen gaming/entertainment (sorry Nintendo's Wii U).

From what we know so far, Sony has paid special attention to the PlayStation 4's connectivity. Rather than bulking up the console with beefy hardware that is sure to drive up consumer costs (don't worry though, the graphical leap from one generation of consoles to another should still be there), Sony stated in an interview that it hopes to make the PlayStation 4 a "nerve center."

Reports have come out based on leaks that the PlayStation 4 will indeed push social networking more than its predecessors. Sharing achievements, and even gameplay footage, will be easy for gamers - the console is even said to record the last 15 minutes of gameplay so that players can edit it for sharing.

The leaked controller prototype pic above shows that Sony plans on including a touchscreen, microphone, and PlayStation Move bar into the peripheral.

We've also heard whispers of there being two PlayStation 4 models, one for $429 and one for $529 when it releases.

Of course, all you have to do to see if any of this is true is tune in at 6 p.m. EST, when Sony kickstarts the next wave of console wars into high gear.
