"Chrysler Group LLC will launch a recall to supplement a previous campaign staged to upgrade light-truck axles," the automaker said in a press release. "The recall has implications for 370,297 vehicles sold in North America."
The vehicles that are affected are 2009 Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen sport utility vehicles.
Dodge Dakota pickups from 2009 to 2011 are also part of the recall, as well as 2009 to 2012 Ram 1500 pickup trucks.
"Some rear axles were assembled with a fastener that can loosen and lead to failure," Chrysler said. "Chrysler Group dealers will install a retainer, at no cost to customers, which secures the fastener."
The automaker said that they are unaware of any injuries associated with the recall and those customers who own the vehicles that are affected by the faulty rear axle fastener will be contacted directly.
While Chrysler claims to be unaware of any injuries, Reuters reports that a spokesman from the U.S. automaker said that the company is aware of 15 accidents as a result of the recall.
"The supplemental action is being undertaken following Chrysler Group's review of model years not implicated in the previous campaign," Chrysler said in a statement.
The current recall expands on a different recall that was announced last Fall where more than 44,000 Dakotas and Ram 1500 pickups had the same faulty rear axle fastener. And after further review of the issue, it was discovered that the problem reached beyond the vehicles they originally included in the first recall---according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as reported by Reuters.
