The online rants of a cynical coffee server went viral nationwide after the barista's boss fired him for posting snarky comments about his customers. Now, it looks like there's a book deal in the works for the bitter barista.

Here's what happened, in case you missed it: A barista from Seattle's All City Coffee started an anonymous website called 'Bitter Barista: Thoughts from Behind the Counter (and other reasons why I hate you),' where he posted biting observations of his customers and the coffee-serving life.

"Instead of buying your kid rice-milk-hot-chocolate, just punch them in the back of the head and tell them life is full of disappointments," one post read. And farther down: "Yes, coffee is expensive. But you're more than welcome to go to Ethiopia and get it yourself."

The website was an instant hit, reports MyNorthwest.com, and soon caught the attention of Sprudge.com, a site focused on "Coffee News and Frothy Gossip" (who knew?) Sprudge did not approve of the Bitter Barista's sometimes cruel commentary, and they posted an article outing his real identity-he's a musician named Matt Watson-and where he worked.

Watson's boss fired him soon after that, but Watson seemed to take it in stride, posting, "My ex-boss thinks the website is gonna stop because I don't work there anymore. Man, I didn't even work there when I worked there!"

According to MyNorthwest.com's Rachel Belle, Watson received several job offers after being fired, even from cafés who knew about the Bitter Barista. He told Belle that he did not resent being fired, considering the backlash from the Sprudge article.

He added that in reality, he didn't hate his job; his website was meant to be satirical. "I clearly like my  customers very much," he said. I've been at that place for over two years...I think we all have jobs we want to complain about."

Now, it sounds like Watson may have a new job---as an author. "Coffee table book in the works!" he posted on his website. "Leave us your email and be the first to know when."
