Last week's episode of 'The Vampire Diaries,' entitled "Into the Wild," was an explosive, emotional run for the gang on the quest to find the cure as well as for Tyler (Michael Trevino), Caroline (Candice Accola) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) back in Mystic Falls.
The episode begins as Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley), Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Bonnie (Kat Graham), Rebekah (guest star Claire Holt) and Shane (guest star David Alpay) head off to find the cure to vampirism as well as the powerful immortal Silas.
While Shane leads them throughout the mysterious island, Damon becomes suspicious of him and his real plans for the group. While interrogating him, Damon discovers that Shane plans to use Bonnie's magic to free Silas from his tomb in order to bring back his wife and son back from the dead. Just before Damon can kill Shane in order to make sure that no harm comes to Elena, Elena shows up and stops him, removing Shane's restraints in the process.
Meanwhile, Jeremy gets himself caught and so does Bonnie when she tries to find him. The two are reunited by a witch that's helping Shane out as he gets one step closer to freeing Silas.
Back home, Tyler taunts Klaus for being powerless in Bonnie's trap and leads Caroline directly to a deadly trap. Klaus, a hybrid, bites Caroline, thus poisoning her with his werewolf venom. Tyler tries to appeal to him but to no avail. As a last attempt, Tyler tells Klaus that he'll have to watch Caroline die himself, which he knows Klaus won't be able to do because he's in love with Caroline. As she's drawing her last breath, Klaus gives in and feeds her his blood, effectively curing her of his werewolf bite.
In this week's episode, entitled "Down the Rabbit Hole," Damon has a run-in with of The Five, a Hunter named Vaughn (guest star Charlie Bewley). Meanwhile, little bro Stefan spills his real feelings about the possibility of becoming human again to ex-girlfriend Elena, the CW teases. Elena's brother Jeremy will have to help Bonnie through some difficult magic as Shane tries to release Silas.
Back at home in Mystic Falls, Caroline and Tyler will be forced to ask Klaus for help in decoding the Hunter's Sword. While everyone searches for the cure, they'll learn a new piece of information about it, which will change "the stakes for everyone."
