Who is better, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? The two greatest living soccer players not only compete in the same league but for rival squads. As Latinos Post compares both players, let us look at what the two superstars accomplished during the 23rd week of La Liga and like this attempt to determine who displayed better performance.

Messi: The Argentine and his club had a tremendous weekend with a rousing 6-1 win over Getafe. Messi put his skills on display by scoring a goal and an assist. With the goal, Messi is on pace to put up 56 goals by the end of the season; he scored 50 last year. The goal also represented the 11th of 2013 for Messi. During his game for Argentina, Messi was held scoreless.

Ronaldo: The Portuguese star had one of the best weeks of his season. He scored a goal for Portugal on Wednesday against Ecuador before exploding for his second hat trick of 2013 against Sevilla. Ronaldo's first goal was a wicked blast from outside the box into the far side. His second goal was a nice presentation of poise and control on a rush up field. He is now on pace for 39 goals in 2012-13.

Stats through Week 21 of the 2012-13 season

Messi: 35 goals, 9 assists (5 goals, 2 assists in UCL; 2 goals in Spanish Super Cup; 4 goals in the Copa Del Rey)

Ronaldo: 24 goals, 4 assists (6 goals in UCL, 1 assist; 2 goals in Spanish Super Cup; 4 goals in the Copa Del Rey)

Goals in 2013

Messi: 11

Ronaldo: 14

Edge: Both players had solid weeks, but Ronaldo's performance for Portugal coupled with his explosion for Madrid makes him the decisive winner this week.

Messi Leads 13-10 for the 2012-13 season.

Ronaldo has a 4-2 edge in 2013.

During week 5, both players earned a point for equally strong weeks. During week 10, neither earned a point for forgettable weeks.
