Microsoft is revealing their Surface with Windows 8 Pro tablet, which will have the most 128GB of internal storage, however, that isn't 100 percent accurate.

Each system, or device, uses a significant amount of internal storage space for the pre-installed software. With that noted, Microsoft has broken down the amount of real internal storage available in both the Surface with Windows RT and Surface Pro tablets.

The Surface with Windows RT is currently available in two types of storage - 32GB and 64GB. In actuality, the 32GB tablet has 16GB of available content for the user while the 64GB has 45GB of available space.

The reason for the diminished GB is for storage space for Windows recovery tools and for the built-in apps including Microsoft Office. To be precise, according to Microsoft, 5GB is used for the Windows recovery tools and another 8GB are used for the RT operating system and built-in apps, for both 32GB and 64GB Surface RT tablets.

When it comes to the Surface with Windows 8 Pro, it is available in 64GB and 128GB tablets. In reality, the amount of free space the user can store is 29GB for the 64GB tablet and 89GB for the 128GB tablet.

When breaking down the GBs, 9GB are used to space the Windows recovery tools while another 21GB are used for the operating system and built-in apps.

Microsoft does allow users an option to store additional space, if needed, with the SkyDrive app. The could storage app is available for both Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets to store up to 7GB of content. A microSD card slot is as second option for users to utilize if they desire more space.
