Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old school girl who shot in the face by the Taliban, has been released from the hospital. After undergoing a successful surgery at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham, she was dismissed from the UK hospital as an in-patient.
On October 9, she was targeted and shot at point blank range by the Taliban due to her activism toward educating girls in Pakistan. The bullet hit above her left eye and grazed her brain.
"Today you can see that I am alive. I can speak, I can see you, I can see everyone and I am getting better day by day," said Yousafzai. "It's just because of the prayers of people. Because all people - men, women, children - all of them have prayed for me."
The teen continued saying "And because of all these prayers, God has given me this new life, a second life. And I want to serve. I want to serve the people. I want every girl, every child, to be educated. For that reason, we have organised the Malala Fund."
The Malala fund supports the education and empowerment of girls in Pakistan and other countries throughout the world.
A spokesman from the high commission of Pakistan in London said: "We are very pleased to hear Malala has been discharged. It's great news indeed for her family and the people of Pakistan. All the people of Pakistan are waiting to see her well and have been praying for her recovery. We all want to see her back to school and back to her studies and fighting for her cause, for the education of girls, once more. I wish her and her family all the best as she continues her recovery in Birmingham."
