WWDC 2012 Ultimate Prediction: iOS 6, OS X Mountain Lion, but NO iPhone 5

Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is just about to begin. The eyes from all over the world are focusing on the leading tech company’s conference held at Moscone Center in San Francisco starting on Monday.

Previous WWDCs have been the place where a large number of breaking news was revealed. As the annual conference is for developers, WWDC’s bread-and-butter is software, though its keynote address may announce some new hardware products.

So what shall we expect this year?

iOS 6
A big banner of iOS 6 logo has been set up at the Moscone Center boasting it as “The world’s most advanced mobile operating system.” Obviously the demonstration of next generation operating system ran on iPhone and iPad will be an emphasis of Apple. The company has always kept its new technology in confidential; therefore the estimated feature enhancements have been mostly yet unknown, except the noticeable drop off of Google Maps as its default mapping service.

Other most reliable changes include a tight integration with Facebook, support for desktop apps, improved photo-sharing capabilities and a brand new design for user interface.

It is very likely that Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook will unveil iOS 6 followed by developers’ demonstration of enhancements.

OS X Mountain Lion
Apple announced OS X Mountain Lion earlier in February with an expectation of release during this summer. With its banner hang up at the conference center, it is a pretty significant link to show more information about the operating system, which is expected by Apple to compete with Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8.

Siri and iCloud updates
Together with the two operating systems will be the enhancements of iCloud service which was released at last year’s WWDC. The still-in-beta Siri will come a lot of improvements such as support of more languages.

On May 30 Tim Cook said at the “All Things D” that “There’s more we can do [with Siri]. We have a lot of people working on this. You’ll be really pleased with the things you’ll see over the coming months.” So it’s pretty worth of looking forward to seeing that.

No iPhone 5
Apple unveiled new iPhones at WWDC in both 2009 and 2010. However, iPhone 4S was not released until October last year. We highly doubt that the new iPhone 5, despite all the rumors surrounding it, will be released at the WWDC 2012.

And if Apple indeed was planning for an iPhone 5 intro at the WWDC this year, there surely will be a banner for it.
