The Africa Cup of Nations final will be played this Sunday when Nigeria faces off against surprise contender Burkina Faso. Nigeria is the favorite to raise the trophy and player Vincent Enyeama feels that it is time for the team to bask in some continental glory.
"I think it is high time that I get to lift the trophy," Enyeama told Goal.com. "We are all determined to win. Every player is ready and I think it will take a team effort for us to win this cup."
The goalkeeper has been with the Super Eagles since 2002 and won the Footballer of the Year award in 2009 while playing in Israel. Despite his own personal accolades, he feels he owes his country a victory. "Yes, I know that I have achieved a lot of things in my football career, but I still owe my country the AFCON," said Enyeama.
Nigeria was the second place team in Group B during the preliminary round of the tournament. They won one game and drew two, including a 1-1 tie against Burkina Faso. During the quarterfinals, the team defeated the Ivory Coast before cruising to a 4-1 blowout over Mali.
Nigeria has won the tournament two times in its history; the nation won the cup in 1980 and 1994. The team has collected seven third place finishes, including four since 2002.
