The Chicago Blackhawks (8-0-2) look to remain undefeated in regulation when they take on the Phoenix Coyotes (4-4-2) on Thursday night.
The Hawks are on a two game winning streak including a dominant 5-3 effort over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. The Hawks were down 2-0 in the first, but a timeout by Coach Joel Quenneville halfway through the first period fueled a three goal outburst by Chicago.
"It wasn't the start we wanted," Quenneville said. "We know they're the fastest starting team in the League, and they get the crowd going. Getting a response quickly was important, and I liked the way the guys battled back, stuck together. I thought we really improved our team game as it progressed."
The Coyotes have won two straight after a poor start and are back to .500 hockey. Goalie Mike Smith has returned to form with two strong performances including a 1-0 shutout over Dallas on Feb. 2. Coach David Tippett is much happier with his team's recent play and made it clear after the win over Minnesota. "I'd rather be 10-0, but we've dug ourselves out of a little hole here," Tippett said. "The last four or five games we've gotten back to the way we need to play I lot of guys paid the price to win, and that's what you have to do."
Previous Meetings: This is the second meeting of the season. The Hawks defeated the Coyotes 6-4 on Jan. 20.
Predictions: The Coyotes stop the Blackhawks streak and defeat them 3-1.
