On Feb. 8 Salvador Mejia stated that he will announce the female lead of the upcoming telenovela "La Tempestad" starring William Levy.

According to numerous reports, Ximena Navarrete and Elizabeth Gutierrez are the final two women in the running for the role. On the show "Todo para la mujer" it was revealed that Silvia Navarro will not be considered for the role even though she auditioned.

William Levy recently revealed that Gutierrez never auditioned for the part. He also stated that he was not thinking of working with his girlfriend any time soon despite acknowledging that she is a fantastic actress.

Levy also revealed that he would love to see Televisa give Navarrete an opportunity. He stated that, "she is starting out and deserves an opportunity so she can grow as an actress."

Over the past month many actresses including Angelique Boyer and Myriam Abreu were shortlisted as possible contenders for the role. Actress Sandra Echeverria also revealed that she rejected working on the telenovela due to scheduling issues and film projects.

"La Tempestad" is currently finishing pre-production and is set to air in Mexico in May. The series will then be brought to the US in the fall. Daniela Romo and Poncho Herrera have confirmed their participation in the series.
