The defending World Cup Champion Spain hosts Uruguay in a Wednesday friendly.

Spain is coming off a 5-1 win over Panama on November 14. The victory showcased the team's offensive prowess; an ingredient that had been missing in their prior match against France. Most teams have started to come up with new strategies for stopping Spain's possession game and Uruguay will provide a good test for Vicente Del Bosque's side.

La Roja will be without midfield maestro Xavi; he has a calf injury. Other absentees include Xabi Alonso (groin) and captain Iker Casillas (hand). Javi Martinez, Roberto Soldado and Fernando Torres were not included in Del Bosque's roster selections. Isco and defender Cesar Azpilicueta could make their international team debuts on Wednesday. Spain has not lost in 17 matches since November 2011; the team has won 13 and drawn four in that stretch.

Uruguay won 3-1 over Poland in their last game, but the team has been poor in World Cup qualifications. In four matches this fall, Uruguay only managed one out of 12 points. The team was trounced 4-0 by Columbia, 3-1 by Argentina, and 4-1 by Bolivia.

Spain has won two of the last three matches against Uruguay.
