In this week's New Girl, Nick and Jess try to process their impromptu kiss the night before, but neither of them really knows how to handle it. Jess can't get up the nerve to tell Sam, and whenever Nick sees Jess, he tries to flee the room via an instinctive "panic-moonwalk."

Winston freaks out when Nick tells him about the kiss, and he makes Nick promise he'll apologize to Jess before the situation blows up in his face. Meanwhile, Jess confides in Cece, but gets tongue-tied when Cece asks her point-blank if she has feelings for Nick.

That afternoon, Jess tags along with Cece to an Indian dating convention. When Schmidt finds out about the convention, he convinces Nick to come along. Classic Schmidt pickup lines abound, including: "I'm a squirrel. You're my nut. Winter's coming...I'm gonna store you in my cheek, girl."

Schmidt spends the rest of the convention fighting for Cece's attention, and when another man disrespects Cece, Schmidt makes a valiant speech in her defense, showcasing his ability to be simultaneously offensive and endearing. Cece is turned on by his speech, and they end up sleeping together (though Cece insists she will still marry an Indian man).

Meanwhile, Nick and Jess get paired up during a dating icebreaker game, and they spend the entire time trying to joke around and convince each other that the kiss meant nothing. You can tell they each secretly hope it meant something to the other person, but they can't bring themselves to talk about it directly.

Finally, Jess tells Sam about the kiss, and let's just say it doesn't go well; Sam punches Nick and breaks up with her. Back at the apartment, Nick tries to comfort Jess, who is devastated by the breakup but admits at the same time that things with Sam weren't perfect ("He always wanted to fist bump in the morning...") Nick apologizes sincerely for kissing her and they exchange an awkward hug.

What's next for Nick and Jess? As we reported earlier, they probably won't be getting together anytime soon. FOX has announced the casting of a new recurring love interest for Nick, reports TVLine. Odette Annable, known for her roles in House, Brothers and Sisters and Breaking In, will play Shane, Nick's gorgeous new coworker who also happens to be his boss's daughter.
