The Pokémon franchise is huge for Nintendo and the latter has detailed figures on how true it is.

As Latinos Post reported, Nintendo has confirmed it has sold 10 million units of the Nintendo 3DS, which is "slightly slower than that of Nintendo DS," said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.

The Nintendo president added, "While Nintendo 3DS did not get off the ground so well, we managed to place it back on an ideal sales track."

The company is banking on the upcoming sixth generation Pokémon games, "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y," to provide a boost in 3DS sales as the game has performed brilliantly in sales in previous Nintendo consoles.

The last Pokémon game released was "Pokémon Black 2" and "Pokémon White 2" last October. Showing the power of the Pokémon fan base, the games were the highest selling games according to third quarter figures among all Nintendo consoles. "Pokémon Black 2" and "Pokémon White 2" was released for the regular Nintendo DS and has surpassed sales seen for the 3DS and Wii U.

The sequel to the fifth generation games, together, sold 7.63 million units, nearly two million more than "New Super Mario Bros. 2" for the 3DS, which sold 5.96 million units, and "New Super Mario Bros. U" for the Wii U.

With the upcoming Pokémon games set to be released in October exclusively for the 3DS, it could provide Nintendo stronger 3DS sales. "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" will be released in the same month for Australia, Europe, Japan, and North America.

Pre-orders are being accepted by Amazon and GameStop.
