Super Bowl 2013 Tickets Price Lower Than Expected, Cheapest Cost $1,249?

Tickets for the 2013 Super Bowl are currently at a monthly low, having peaked just after the first of the year on January 2.

The secondary ticket market is alive, but not as strong as initially expected. Of the final four teams in this year's NFL Playoffs, the Falcons were thought to be the worst draw, and the Patriots weren't looked at favorably because of their recent visits to the big game. Ray Lewis' final contest, the Harbaugh Bowl and Colin Kaepernick's wild ride to the top were all thought to be reasons that fans would flock to New Orleans, especially since neither team had been to the Super Bowl in over a decade. The San Francisco 49ers last made it in 1996, while the Ravens had their only previous Super Bowl appearance (and win) in February of 2001.

Another potential reason for the tickets' down prices is the location, believe it or not. New Orleans doesn't appear to have a lot of locals interested in coming to the event, because the city has hosted the Super Bowl 10 times (which is tied for the most of any city). Although parts of the city have made a good recovery since Hurricane Katrina, there is at least a chance that New Orleans' reputation may be a bit tarnished, because it has not hosted a Super Bowl since before the storm.

Super Bowl XLVII begins at 6:30 pm EST on Sunday, February 3 on CBS. The Ravens will play the San Francisco 49ers in the championship, with Lewis playing the last game of his career, according to his own plans. The game is the second time in history that brothers who are head coaches will face each other in an NFL contest, with the only other one being a 16-9 victory for John Harbaugh and the Ravens over Jim Harbaugh and the Niners on Thanksgiving in 2011.
