Disney has released the Oscar-nominated short film "Paperman" on YouTube and it has been a resounding success with over 1 million hits thus far.

The film is nominated for the best animated short category at the Oscars and tells the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute.

The film has been marketed as a groundbreaking short as it combines both computer animation and hand drawn techniques. The film premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film festival and later appeared in front of the Oscar nominated film "Wreck-It Ralph."

The film's director John Kahr stated that his inspiration for the movie came from the old Disney films. He stated that "There were such phenomenal drawings being done of all the characters and it seemed like, 'Why do we have to leave these drawings behind?" Kahr also stated that making the drawings "move on top of the CG was achieved using Meander. While the look is old-fashioned, it's a revolution in CG animation in technology terms."

"Paperman" is nominated alongside "Adam and Dog," "Fresh Guacamole," "Head over Heals." And "Maggie Simpson in the Longest Daycare."
