What began as a self-inflicted gun wound that tragically led to death has now festered into an investigation and a possible murder case. Country singer Mindy McCready's denies any involvement, but the skeptics, as always, are asking questions.

McCready's boyfriend and father of her 9-year-old son, David Wilson passed away shortly after being rushed to the hospital on Jan. 3 from the supposed self-inflicted gunshot wound. McCready was with Wilson after the shooting and called 911. McCready told Entertainment Today that "he was not responding" and she "lay down next to him and just pleaded with him not to die."

But as the investigation remains open, questions regarding McCready's involvement linger. She denied questions regarding Wilson's alleged affair claimed the bullet wasn't discovered until the following day because "it was in the dog's mouth." There are currently no declared suspects and tests that will determine if it was a murder or suicide will be released in the subsequent weeks.

When McCready was asked if she shot Wilson, she replied "Oh my God, no. He was my life. We were each others' life." She later said "I've never gone through anything this painful, nor will I ever again go through anything this painful."

Unfortunately for McCready, her checkered past doesn't help her case. In 2004 she was arrested in Tennessee for attempting to buy OxyContin using a fake prescription and was sentenced to three years of probation. McCready has also been arrested for driving with a suspended license, identity theft, violating her terms of probation on drug charges and was sentenced to a year in prison. She was also charged for battery after an altercation with her mother, according to USA Today.

As the investigation continues, the details of Wilson's death will become clearer. For now, speculation is speculation, and officials have not made any comment on McCready's current status.
