Rick Ross was celebrating his 37th birthday at a nightclub in Miami before finding himself, and his beloved Rolls-Royce, at the center of a drive-by shooting this morning.

The rapper crashed his vehicle into an apartment building to avoid being hit by the bullets being fired at him. Ross, along with female passenger Shateria L. Moragne-el that was in the car at the time, escaped uninjured, according to Fort Lauderdale police.

Police are still on the search for the gunman or gunmen who fled the area before police arrived on the scene.

Ross and his female passenger did not want their names to be released out of fear for their safety.

"The occupants of the vehicle have asked for their information to be withheld from released," Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Det. DeAnna Garcia said. "They obviously, with everything that just took place, are fearful for their lives and their families lives."

Witnesses who were there on the scene said that they heard up to 20 shots fired.

Fort Lauderdale police are still investigating the shooting and have not determined what the motive for the shooting was.

Ross made the headlines last year after a body was found outside a home that was owned by him.

In 2011, The 37-year-old rapper was also arrested on marijuana possession charges in Louisiana.

Ross reportedly suffered from seizures and other health problems in the last year as well, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Fort Lauderdale Police requests that anyone with information call them at 954-828-5546.
