Ndamukong Suh is known as one of the dirtiest players on a football field, but his recent actions in a pool couldn't be any more different. Suh saved comedian Louie Anderson from drowning as Anderson was practicing dives for the upcoming reality show, Celebrity Diving, Deadspin is reporting.
Suh is one of a few star athletes to have committed such a brave act in the recent past. Ironically enough, another love-him-or-hate-him player, New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, also saved someone from serious injury or worse. Back in 2005, A-Rod saved an eight-year-old boy from being hit by a speeding truck on Newbury Street in Boston.
One U.S. soldier claims that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo saved him twice in one incident in 2010, though that was a much different situation.
Suh has had plenty of negative limelight in the past, between an appearance on a dating show and multiple fines and suspensions he has received from his employer for late and/or otherwise inappropriate hits. He has been named the dirtiest player in the NFL by the Sporting News and also the Least-Liked player by Forbes.
In 2011, Suh stomped on opposing player Evan Dietrich-Smith's arm after hitting his head into the ground three times after a referee's whistle had blown the play dead. He was suspended for two games and fined. The following season, Suh kicked Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in the groin during a game and was handed a $30,000 fine.
Other contestants in Celebrity Diving include the purveyor of the skyhook Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, ex-"Cosby Show" actress Keisha Knight Pulliam, Nicole Eggert of "Baywatch" fame and Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb. The first episode will air on ABC on March 19.
