The Microsoft Surface Pro offers up to 64GB more memory than the largest RT model of the device, but according to a recent Softpedia report, Microsoft confirms that pre-installed data will consume 45GB of space. The new information, gathered from an official statement, applies only to the 128GB Pro, yet it's not a stretch to assume that the 64GB will free up only 19GB for user storage.
In other Surface Pro news, the Redmond-based company recently debunked rumors that its business oriented tablet-laptop hybrid would ship with Microsoft Office 2013 onboard. Such a move would reportedly sap the productivity suite's primary source of profit.
Microsoft's upgraded hybrid replaces the RT's scaled-back version of Windows 8 with the full operating system, and injects a brand new processor alongside extra RAM to boost performance. The Surface RT wasn't exactly embraced by consumers or critics, but the Pro promises to rev up interest once more and deliver on many of the promises that the RT simply wasn't powerful enough to carry out.
The Pro features a multi-touch 10.6-inch screen with a 1920x1080 resolution, Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, USB 3.0, an integrated Intel GPU, up to 128GB of memory, and a new pressure-sensitive pen tailored for graphic artists and image editing software. The Pro comes in both 64GB and 128GB flavors, priced respectively at $899 and $999.
Microsoft's Surface RT boasts a 10.6-inch screen, but only displays at a 1366x768 resolution. A quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 2GB of RAM fill out both 32GB and 64GB versions of the device.
