South Park Cut Back: Creators to Produce Fewer Episodes Per Season

Say it isn't so! "South Park" creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker plan to cut down on the number of episodes they produce every year, according to an interview with The New York Times' David Carr, published online today.

Starting in September, fans will only get a single 10 episode run instead of a 14-episode season comprised of two 7 episode runs.

The news comes two weeks after Stone and Parker, creators of "South Park" and the hit Broadway musical "The Book of Mormon," announced a new joint venture, a production company called Important Studios. According to The New York Times article, the change to South Park's episode structure will allow the two to focus on other projects: Ten episodes "just sounded like a good number, and we won't break up the year so we can more easily do other stuff," said Stone. No word yet on what specifically that "other stuff" may be in the future, but "South Park" fans will be eager to find out.

One project the duo has been working on, outside of the Comedy Central show, is the upcoming video game called "South Park: The Stick of Truth." It's expected to be released on March 5, 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The two creators wrote the script and provided voices for the game. "The Stick of Truth" is a role-playing game based on the "Lord of the Ring" characters the kids play in the "South Park" episode "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers."
