Shakira and Gerard have given birth to their first son Milan Pique Mebarak. The child was born at 9:30 p.m. Barcelona local time.
The announcement came on twitter via "Pies Descalzos." Pies Descalzos is a Colombian charity founded by pop artist Shakira with the aim of helping poor and impoverished children.
The twitter account states: "they were happy for the birth of Milan."
The artist's representative also made the announcement according to media outlet Univision..
The singer went to the Teknon Hospital in Barcelona at 6 p.m. local time and entered through the back entrance where numerous paparazzi'ss were waiting for her to arrive. Speculations state the baby was born through a C section.
According to reports, Shakira requested that the team assisting her gynecologist Carlota Garcia-Valdecasas should be composed only of women and those who participate in the labor had to sign a confidentiality agreement to avoid leakage and disclosure of information or photos.
Rumors on Jan. 21 said that the singer would induce labor for birth on Monday.
Shakira and Pique hit headlines after posting pictures of Shakira's baby bump on Twitter. The couple also launched their virtual baby shower and asked fans to contribute to the organization UNICEF.
The child was originally rumored to be called Ulicito.The couple met in 2010 on the set of Shakira's music video "Waka Waka" and confirmed that they were dating in 2011 via her Twitter account.
No pictures or images of the child have been disclosed, leaked or published as of yet.
