It's still a ways off, but Microsoft's Xbox 720 console is already one of the most anticipated pieces of gadgetry expected in 2013. Well ahead of its release, or even its unveiling, a new report claims to have gotten its hands on the official specs list.

Website VGLeaks posted what they claim is the layout of the Xbox 720, codename "Durango."

As you can tell, the Xbox 720 will indeed be sporting an eight-core processor. VGLeaks states that it will be comprised of two quad cores, each with a 2MB L2 cache, resulting in a total of 4MB. The layout also lists the eight-core processor as being clocked in at around 1.6GHz. The Xbox 720 will also apparently come with 8GB DDR3 RAM, 32MB fast embedded SRAM, and a 50GB 6X Blu-ray disc drive.

In terms of graphics, the Xbox 720 will have 12 shader cores, according to VGLeaks, for a total of 768 threads. At its best, the GPU will be able to push out a whopping 1.2-trillion floating-point operations per second.

Many of the specs listed have already been hinted at in previous reports from other publications, and the VGLeaks has not in any way been confirmed by Microsoft, so don't take this is as an absolute truth. The layout also shows an HDMI in, adding credence to the rumor that the Xbox 720 will be able to act like a DVR to record broadcast television. Also, expect Microsoft to go ahead and use the Xbox 720 to help launch Kinect 2.0, which should support up to four players at once and be accurate enough to read lips.

Microsoft is also reported to be releasing a 7-inch gaming tablet and a possible smartphone down the line. If all goes as plan, Microsoft will be aggressively marketing the Xbox as an entertainment experience, not simply a gaming console.

What do you think about the Xbox 720 reported specs? Powerful enough for you?
