Following an impressive season finale, which captured the eyeballs of 3.9 million viewers between the ages of 18-49, it appears "Wayward Pines" season 2 may be on its way, and a new protagonist could take shape.

Speculation for the upcoming season's plot includes an uprising lead by Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan), son of the late Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon).

At the end of episode 10, Ben is seen waking up from a 3-year-long slumber from the trauma he suffered in battling The Abbies, and his father dies in the very fight. He is expected to take down the new regime.

According to IBT Times, Ben could very well be the savior that lifts the suspension that has been placed on the adults by the "First Generation" and end the surveillance.

Fans are hoping to get answers on the state of a few characters, including Kate, Pam and Theresa, whose outcomes remain unknown. They also have been starting to wonder whether Mrs. Fisher, a cruel teacher, received the "slow-and-painful" death she deserved.

Although season 2 has not officially been confirmed, viewers are lead to believe there may be a new season in the works; the show was initially created as a single season pilot.

"It was not meant to tease a season 2. It was the end. Period," Producer Chad Hodge told Entertainment Weekly on the topic of another season.

However, thanks to the amazing turnout for the season 1 finale, show executives seem to be thinking otherwise.

Showrunner M. Night Shyamalan expressed to Deadline his satisfaction with the show's ending but would be open to more: "I knew where we were heading for the final se we could architecture the 10-episodes in that manner. So, I am happy to walk away."

The "Signs" director has been in discussions with the book's author, Blake Crouch, on possible ideas to move forward. "But honestly, Blake and I do have an idea. We have an idea we've discussed. That's all I'll say," he told Deadline in a rather rather tight-lipped fashion.

Sigh, the waiting game begins.
