The future of 'Wayward Pines' television show hangs in the balance, both figuratively and in actuality. The season 1 finale ended with three characters, Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), Ms. Fisher (Hope Davis) and David Pilcher (Toby Jones), dying. The remaining adults in Wayward Pines have been placed in suspension by the "First Generation," which Ethan's son, Ben, discovers upon waking up from a three-year-long slumber from the trauma he suffered after battling The Abbies.

Producer Chad Hodge revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the ending of the season 1 finale is meant to be a "close" to the story. "It was not meant to tease a season 2. It was the end. Period," he admitted. "Really what it does is it comes full circle."

Hodge also said beginning and end were shot almost identically to recreate the same scene: "Just as Ethan woke up in episode 1 and found himself in this strange town of Wayward Pines... and people staring at him, it's actually partly shot-for-shot exactly what we did in the first episode as Ben comes up Main St. and sees people starring at him. It's meant to be full circle."

"There are some preliminary discussions, but nothing official yet," the executive producer added, concerning a possible second season. "It really was always designed to be this one season, so should it have a further life, it's a whole new discussion. This ending and where it went was always intended to be the end."

Meanwhile, Showrunner M. Night Shyamalan told Deadline he is satisfied with the ending to the series, which garnered over 3.9 millions viewers, ranging in age from 18 to 49.

However, the "Sixth Sense" director has been discussing more plans with the book's author, Blake Crouch. "I knew where we were heading for the finale and so we could architecture the 10-episodes in that manner. So, I am happy to walk away," he divulged. "But honestly, Blake and I do have an idea. We have an idea we've discussed. That's all I'll say."

Both Hodge and Shyamalan have yet to completely shut down the speculation of season 2 so until then, fans will have to wait and see.
