A brilliant young scout from San Francisco, California, has caught the attention of thousands around the world due to her unexpected business savvy.
Danielle Lei, a 13-year-old girl, jumped to famed last week when she showed a natural talent for business when she managed to sell 117 boxes of girl scout cookies in just two hours.
Her secret? An original business strategy that consisted in setting up a sales post outside The Green Cross clinic, a marijuana dispensary in the Californian city, which guaranteed her sales that left behind the number of boxes they used to sell outside malls, the most common sales posts used by girl scouts.
Besides her fortunate incursion into business, the selling of cookies outside a marijuana dispensary helped Danielle's mother talk to her about the delicate issue of drugs, the proud mother told CBS' affiliate KPIX.
One of the main effects after consuming cannabis is an increase in appetite, a phenomenon commonly known as "the munchies", so it's not surprising that The Green Cross' clients, as well as clinic employees and even neighbors came out to buy cookies.
But Danielle's successful business venture has not been well-received by all; the Girl Scouts of Colorado wrote on their social network accounts that "If you're wondering, we don't allow our Girl Scouts to sell cookies in front of marijuana dispensaries, liquor stores or bars," quoted the CBS.
The controversy which has been taken to the local Girl Scouts council the young girl belongs to is in charge of safety advice, but it does not dictate where selling posts can be set up.
"We respect that individual sales and selling decisions might vary for different families and in the context of their communities. The mother's decision to allow her daughter to have a stand in this place is not meant to be an endorsement of any kind," said the council, according to the quoted source.
