A federal judge in the state of Florida sentenced the former manager of salsa music singers Víctor Manuelle and Elvis Crespo for drug trafficking charges, local media reported.

According to The Latin Times, last Feb. 6, José R. Díaz Rosado, former manager for tropical music stars, was sentenced by federal Judge K. Michael Moore to spend the rest of his life behind bars over drug trafficking charges.

The same source highlights that on September 20, 2013, a grand jury accused the former manager of possession with intent to distribute of five kilos of cocaine in the United States. Five days later, Rosado was arrested in New York by agents of the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and on November 4 of that year, the 48-year-old manager plead guilty to these charges.

Finally, on Feb. 6, Judge Moore sentenced him to life in prison and a fine of $100, despite the efforts of managers, sales agents of shows, artists and Díaz' wife and children, who requested a different sentence, reported The Huffington Post.

After the news broke out, friends of the former manager and show business personalities showed their support for the Díaz family on social networks.

Singer Víctor Manuelle, with whom he had a professional relationship, tweeted in support of the Díaz family.

Regrettable news about José Díaz. Although I don't agree with his actions, which I didn't know about, my support goes to him and his family in this sad moment.

Singer Elvis Crespo, who Díaz worked for in the past, has not made any statements so far. It's still unknown if Díaz' lawyers will appeal the sentence or not.
