Authorities confirmed that actress, model and former Miss Venezuela Mónica Spear was murdered in her home country the night of Monday, Jan. 6 as she traveled on a Carabobo highway with her husband, Irish national Thomas Henry Berry.

According to the BBC, the actress was enjoying her holiday vacations in Venezuela with her husband and daughter, 5-year-old Maya, when they were killed inside the car they traveled in.

Venezuelan authorities have not provided any details on the event; however, local media reports that the vehicle Spear and her husband traveled in might have had a mechanical failure that forced them to stop. That's when unknown assailants robbed the couple and shot them. Maya was shot in the leg, but her health is reported as stable.

Telemundo, the TV network for the former Venezuelan beauty queen worked at, confirmed that Mónica Spear Mootz, 29, and her husband Thomas Henry Berry, 39, were waiting for mechanics inside a 2002 Toyota when they were attacked.

CNN reported that the Public Ministry of Venezuela said that the Spear and Berry's bodies were found on Monday night, and that two prosecutors had been assigned to the case.

At the time of hear death, Mónica Spear had managed to build a successful career in the U.S. thanks to her roles on Telemundo.

The Venezuelan model was born in the city of Maracaibo, the capital of the state of Zulia, in northwestern Venezuela in 1984. In 2004, she became Miss Venezuela and a year later she participated in Miss Universe in Bangkok, Thailand, where she came in fourth place.

Spear will be remembered for her roles in telenovelas such as "Mi Prima Ciela", "Calle Luna, Calle Sol," "La Mujer Perfecta," "Flor Salvaje," and "Pasión Prohibida."
