Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time has been a huge success for developer Popcap and publisher EA when they launched the game for iOS platforms, and fans of the series have been waiting for the game to come to Android platforms as well. The game launched in July, but there's been no sign of the game coming to Android, causing some to accuse Apple of paying Popcap and EA to delay the port of the game from being released. Now, Apple has gone on the record to refute these claims.

At an internal town hall meeting that EA held, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau claimed that Apple had paid the company to drag their feet on releasing the Android version of the game.

"Apple gave us a truckload of money to delay the Android version [of Plants vs Zombies 2]," said Gibeau, according to Giant Bomb.

Apple got wind of the story and is now claiming that no such payoff was delivered to EA Games. Developer Popcap has refused to comment on Gibeau's statements. Exclusivity deals between platform makers and publishers are nothing new; Microsoft and Activision have a deal for timed exclusives with Call of Duty. If Apple did pay for a timed exclusive deal for Plants vs. Zombies, the company probably wouldn't bother lying about it.

It should be noted that the game is available on Android devices, but only in China, where it is vastly outselling the Apple version of the game, according to Gibeau. The president of EA Labels also claimed the Android version of the game will be released sometime in October, which is in line with the fall 2013 projected date for the Android version of the game.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time has managed to perform well even without appearing on Android platforms. The free-to-play game has been downloaded over 25 million times, and both fans and critics have heaped praise on the sequel for its gameplay and challenging levels. There's no word yet about a console version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 being released, but considering that the first game appeared on many different platforms, it is within the realm of possibility that Plants vs. Zombies 2 eventually is ported to consoles.
