Samsung China has unveiled a new mid-tier dual-touchscreen Android flip phone, called the Hennessy.
It seems we have proof that the Samsung line of smartphones has officially gotten out of control. With a Galaxy of devices already on the market, catering to every specific need - Do you want a 7-inch tablet or a 6.3-inch phablet? - on Thursday Samsung's Chinese website unveiled yet another smartphone with a new (old) form factor: The Samsung Hennessy is a dual-screen Android-powered smart flip phone.
The Chinese website displayed several pictures, along with specs and features, which Engadget translated. The Samsung Hennessy has two 3.3-inch touchscreen displays running a modest 320 x 480 resolution, which is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, assisted by 1GB of RAM. The handset will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
From the photos, you can see the three Android capacitive keys on the outer screen- menu, home, and back - and while the inside screen lacks them, there's everything else you would expect from an Android phone. The device runs on a 1,500 mAh battery and has a 5-megapixel rear camera. On the inside, there's a microSD slot, though there's no word on what the phone's internal storage may be. Also inside the phone is a dual SIM opening for CDMA and GSM radio bands, along with GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
Availability, release date, and price have not been seen yet, so it could be that the Hennessy flip phone is only bound for China. A previously leaked flip phone - the SCH-W2013 - had much better specs, but at a cost of over a thousand dollars, so with the Hennessy, we now know that Samsung is working on mid-tier flip phones as well.
