Police say three people were wounded outside a Las Vegas movie theater last night after shots were fired at a nearby parking lot, reports the Associated Press.

Around midnight, police responded to a Las Vegas Boulevard parking lot near the UA Showcase 8 theater to reports of gun fire and found three men who were shot. The victims were not identified by police, two of them are in critical condition and the other is believed to be suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are on the hunt for the shooter or shooters and say the act was not random, reports say, adding that the shots erupted after two groups of people got into a scuffle in the parking lot. Police say they don't think the shooting was gang related and are still investigating what provoked the shooting.

Initially a police spokesman mistakenly reported that the shooting took place inside the lobby of the movie theater. The last movies featured let out shortly before the shooting was reported, police say they don't know if anyone inside the theater had knowledge of the shooting.

The Vegas shooting comes less than twenty-four hours of a possible murder-suicide in Denver where a 23-year-old mother was found dead with her two young children. These latest acts of gun violence come in the middle of a national debate about strengthening gun laws after a gunman in Newtown, Connecticut, massacred 26 people, including 20 young chldren.
