David Bowie is back.

On his 66th birthday, the long dormant superstar announced a new album known as "The Next Day" alongside the release of the song "Where Are We Now?" The deluxe 17 song release is now available for pre-order on iTunes with a release date of March 12, 2013 for the U.S. Bowie disappeared from the music scene after his 2003 launch of the album "Reality."

A new music video for "Where Are We Now?" debuted today as well, the product of collaboration between Bowie, director Tony Oursler, and producer Tony Visconti, who has worked with the singer for decades. The Vimeo description notes that the latest song "harks back to David's time in Berlin. He is seen looking on footage of the auto repair shop beneath the apartment he lived in along with stark images of the city at the time and a lyric constantly raising the question "Where Are We Now?".

In a Skype interview, Visconti told BBC News, "I think it's a very reflective track for David. He certainly is looking back on his Berlin period and it evokes this feeling... it's very melancholy, I think. It's the only track on the album that goes this much inward for him. It's quite a rock album, the rest of the songs, so I thought to myself why is David coming out with this very slow, albeit beautiful, ballad why is he doing this? He should come out with a bang. But he is a master of his own life."
