'Modern Family' picks up after its winter hiatus with what promises to be a hilarious episode with the adults vacationing in Palm Springs, while the kids are cared for by Haley (Sarah Hyland) and Alex (Ariel Winter).
During the ABC comedy's mid-season finale, called "Diamond In The Rough" Claire (Julie Bowen) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) joined forces to cleanup a field and transform it into a baseball field when Manny (Rico Rodriguez) and Luke's (Nolan Gould) Little League moves on to the playoffs.
The duo also get the idea to flip a house being sold by Mrs. Brooks (guest star Irene Roseen) but don't get the support they expect from Phil (Ty Burell) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson).
Meanwhile, over at Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Gloria's (Sofia Vergara) house, Gloria picks up a microphone to sing to their unborn child. After several failed attempts, Jay manages to get the microphone from her to talk to the baby himself.
In the upcoming episode, entitled "New Year's Eve," Jay plans a vacation for the adults to a hotel in Palm Springs, but everything doesn't go as planned. ABC teases, "When the hotel turns out to be less than stellar, everyone starts to branch off to do their own thing, leaving Jay dejected-that is until he runs into the one and only Billy Dee Williams!"
Back home, Haley and Alex are in charge with taking care of their siblings and cousins, which "proves to be quite a challenge," ABC says.
'Modern Family' S4E11, "New Year's Eve" airs on Wednesday, January 9 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
