For the past couple of months, talk surrounding the film adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling erotic thriller '50 Shades of Grey' has been focused on casting decisions for the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. However, screenwriter Kelly Marcel recently spoke to Style magazine to talk about the film's plot and how it will play out on the big screen.

Marcel, who signed on to the much talked about project in October 2012, called her latest project a "modern love story," the Telegraph reported on Sunday. "Regardless of what you may think of the writing, this is a modern love story, involving two complex characters, and that's what I'm interested in," she told the magazine.

The 38-year-old British screenwriter continued, "You have to work at it and talk about s--- and figure it out, regardless of what the s--- may be." Marcel added, "I don't care what anybody says, there is something about Christian that is old-fashioned and romantic."

According to the Telegraph, the screenwriter behind 'Terra Nova,' also said that the book's many intimate and "raunchy" scenes would be edited to fit into the movie but would remain true to its roots.

"Well, there is going to be a lot of sex in the film," she told Style. "It will be NC-17. It's going to be raunchy. We are 100 percent going there."

Marcel added, "We did go through and decide which are our favorites and which are not. Most of them are in there, but I can't say more than that."

When asked about the frenzy of casting rumors surrounding the film, Marcel told the magazine, "No actor would sign up to a film without a script. That would be insane."

The popular book series' author has said on numerous occasions that casting choices will not be decided on until the production team settles on a director and the film's script is complete. However, that hasn't stopped fans from promoting their favorite actors and actresses for the lead roles. Several actors, including Matt Bomer, Ian Somerhalder and Stephen Amell, have been named fan favorites for the role of Christian Grey. Meanwhile, actresses Alexis Bledel, Nina Dobrev and Emilia Clarke have been named fan favorites for the role of Anastasia Steele.

In the end, Marcel hopes that fans will ultimately enjoy the film version of the story as much as they have loved the book version. "The fans love this book, and I want them to love the film as much. I want to make them laugh and cry, to turn them on. I want this to do everything," she said.
