Over a thousand Ouya developer consoles have been sent out to app designers to produce content for the Android platform, announced the upstart company in an official blog post today. Ouya admits that there are still kinks to work out in the design of the controller's triggers and D-Pad, alongside a myriad of undiscovered bugs, but the finalized console still has three more months in the oven until its March 2013 launch.
For those of you who are expecting a dev console in the mail, the packaging to include a welcome letter, a translucent Ouya with a Micro-USB port, two translucent controllers with batteries, a Micro-USB cable, a power adapter, and a HDMI cable.
When the Ouya originally landed on Kickstarter, it shattered fund-raising records when 63,416 backers contributed a total of $8.596,474 to the project.
The $99 console features a Tegra3 quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal flash storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet connectivity, 1080p HD resolutions, and will allegedly host a market of free-to-play games.
It remains to be seen how the newcomer will fare against Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, but the Ouya's budget price and open source philosophy may be enough to spark a gaming revolution.
