Nokia Lumia 920 Problems: Windows Phone 8 Issues with Brightness Reported After Portico Update Installation

An update for the Nokia Lumia 920 has apparently created further bugs.

The Nokia smartphone, which runs on the Windows Phone 8 operating system, made it available for users to download an update titled "Portico." The update was created to improve messaging improvements, text replies to incoming calls, enhance Wi-Fi connectivity, and improvements with Internet Explorer.

Unfortunately the Portico update featured bugs of its own.

Forum users on WPCentral commented on glitches after downloading the update.

sjhippie: Anyone else noticing their auto-brightness pulsing from low to high? I just did the update and something is really weird. Going to restart the phone again but I doubt thats going to solve it.

kbronctjr: Mine works better than before the update. Before sometimes the screen got to a brightness level and didn't change when the light intensity change. Now it changes really fast.

Gamely Lounges: After my update I noticed the brightness pulsating while browsing a website. At the dark end the screen was unreadable.

NickA: I'm also experiencing the bright/dim bug. Seems like the light sensor is way too sensitive now.

sym1a1a: Has anyone else noticed that with auto brightness bug, that if you turn off auto brightness that the brightness modes are WAY brighter than before, I just tried turning off auto brightness and setting to low and man was the screen bright, it seems to me that compared to before the update low now seems like the old med, med like the old bright and high is like blinding bright, and I mean blinding lol.

According to WPCenral's Daniel Rubino, a possible solution is the following:

1. Take your phone into a pitch-black room

2. Power on

3. Slide your lock screen up

4. ?

5. Profit

Rubino reported, "Seriously, some people are reporting that is all it needs, which in a way makes sense. The phone needs to get a baseline reading of light including very low/no light. Without a bottom to go from, the phone can get muddled on the range it should use. Letting the phone be exposed to pitch black for a few moments may be enough to re-calibrate the system."
