So, which is the best smart phone on the market?

That question gets passionate answers from virtually everyone. The debate between the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy has been raging for some time now, with critics and consumers having differing takes on which is better.

Brian Carlson of CIO.com wrote, "Do you want a big screen at true 720p? Do you want NFC? Do you like the open nature of the Android OS? Do you want universal Micro USB instead of proprietary connectors? Then the Galaxy S3 may be the right phone for you."

However, Carlson also makes a case for the iPhone being a solid choice for fans of Apple's design and the availability of better apps.

"Like tons of mature apps? The iPhone is going to be superior here no question. And no one can argue about the phenomenal nature of Apple's build and design, it really is a solid high end device. Do you want your OS to be more locked down and simplified, with less options to mess with? Go iPhone," he adds.

In comparing the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, Andrew Williams of Trusted Reviews.com, wrote, "The battle between the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 is the very definition of the case between iOS and Android, between Apple and Google. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is more flexible, with expandable memory and a more malleable OS. However, the metal body of Apple's phone feels a lot more premium, and is a much friendlier design for those with less than giant hands. And with the larger 4in screen, it won't feel quite so tiny next to the Samsung Galaxy S3, either."

When matching up both of the aforementioned products, Marguerite Reardon of CNet.com compares the iPhone, the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, the latter two of which she says are very similar. With the Note 2 having a more powerful processor.

Regarding the iPhone, Reardon writes, "While Apple may have already sold millions of iPhone 5 smartphones since its launch in September, not every iPhone fan is thrilled with the new design of the device. And some say the iPhone 5 falls short of expectations, especially in the size department."

Consumers, of course, ranged in opinions regarding the two products.

"It's simple: iphone for girls, Galaxy for boys," wrote user Frankk on Trusted Reviews.

Anton Marshall, on the same site, disagreed, writing, "I'd totally pick iPhone 5 over anything. Samsung is crap."

"B both are really really cool that i am confuse in buying so here's the answer i will buy both of them," wrote "tenzin" on Trusted Reviews.

"I cannot decide between the S3 and IPhone 5," wrote user Raj on the Observer.

Sacto8105 on the San Francisco Chronicle's "The Tech Chronicles" blog wrote, "As a new purchaser of a Samsung Galaxy S III, I can say I take it over the iPhone 5 for one reason: the screen is actually readable for text, unlike the iPhone 5's still too-small screen. It doesn't help that the user plans from Verizon, AT&T and Sprint for the iPhone 5 are also too expensive, too."
