While it's still a ways off, Samsung's next flagship Galaxy S smartphone already has everybody's interest. The company hasn't confirmed anything about the device yet, but a Samsung exec recently let the words "Galaxy S4" slip during a presentation.
This isn't any kind of formal press statement, but it could indicate that the next Samsung flagship phone will indeed be called the Galaxy S4. Website ITProPortal reports that the offhand comments were made by Kit Lam, the Chief Innovation Officer at the Samsung Electronics Research Institute.
The Galaxy S4 should be coming with a 5-inch 1080p display that puts out more than 440 pixels per inch. Many thought the Galaxy S4 would help introduce flexible, unbreakable screens, but the chances of that happening are extremely slim.
The handset is also rumored to have a 13-megapixel camera on board. The Galaxy S4 will undoubtedly sport an ultra fast quad-core processor, but there's also talk of Samsung utilizing two quad-core processors together to give the Galaxy S4 a total of eight cores. The handset should also have at least 2GB RAM, although RAM capacities of 3GB and 4GB are more likely.
Samsung has also already started mass-producing 128GB memory chips to be used in smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy S4 could be one of first smartphones on the mass market to offer such a high internal storage capacity.
Earlier rumors hoped for a January or February 2013 unveiling, but those dates look unlikely now. Samsung will most likely be holding its own Galaxy S4 launch event after CES 2013 and MWC 2013 are over.
