Samsung's Galaxy S2, although an older model, is still poised to receive Android support over the coming months. Carrier U.S. Cellular has just started rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its Galaxy S2. The carrier, however, is the only major national service provider to have not released Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3.
In a confirmation its Facebook page, U.S. Cellular declared that Galaxy S2 users on its network could manually download the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update here. The update can also be grabbed at a U.S. Cellular retail store with a tech center.
"It's here! The Ice Cream Sandwich update is now available for the Samsung Galaxy II. Get awesome new features like Face Unlock, a more intuitive interface, and enhanced texting options," U.S. Cellular said.
International Galaxy S2s can expect an Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update fairly soon. Samsung has been testing builds out, and from the looks of the leaked firmwares, is close to being finished. If you can't wait, however, you can grab an Android 4.1.2 firmware here. Just keep in mind that it is not official, nor do we endorse the build. Back up your device and read instructions carefully.
Sadly, U.S. Cellular hasn't released any official information regarding Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3. Carriers Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon have all already pushed out Android 4.1 for their handsets.
