Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean Update: Android 4.1.2 Rolls Out In Korea

While U.S. Galaxy S3 owners are still in the process of receiving Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean through their carriers, Samsung has been pushing forward with Android 4.1.2 internationally. The South Korean-based electronics manufacturer has now started rolling out Android 4.1.2 in its own backyard. 

Korean Galaxy S3 owners can snag the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update over the air for Galaxy S3 models SHW-M440S, SHV-E210S, SHV-E210K and SHV-E210L. The Android 4.1.2 update is also available through the Samsung KIES software.

Android 4.1.2 isn't going to radically overhaul Jelly Bean, but will introduce some desirable features. For instance, the upgrade will give Galaxy S3s Multi-View, an option previously only available on the Galaxy Note 2. Multi-View allows for apps to run simultaneously on the same screen. 

Alongside Multi-View, the Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 update also introduces Smart Rotation, and a new Gallery app from the Galaxy Note 2. The Notifications panel can also be customized in Android 4.1.2. 

While international, unlocked Galaxy S3 owners from around the world can expect to receive the update over the coming weeks, U.S. Galaxy S3 owners with carrier-tied phones will have to wait even longer. Verizon just started pushing out Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean on Dec. 14, making it the fourth major national carrier to have released a Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S3. Given how long it's taken Android 4.1.1 to release in the United States, it's safe to say Android 4.1.2 won't arrive for a while, and carriers might even opt to skip it and go straight to Android 4.2 (which is currently only running on Google Nexus devices).
