It's been a long time coming, but the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update is finally out. Starting today, Dec. 14, Verizon will be rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in phases to customers over the air.
"Samsung Galaxy S® III is the latest Verizon Wireless smartphone to be upgraded to Android 4.1, Jelly Bean. The software upgrade, which will be pushed to customers in phases starting Dec. 14, also makes the smartphone Global Ready. Customers who would like to manually download the upgrade through the settings menu will be able to within the next week," reads the Verizon press release.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will give Verizon Galaxy S3 users some nifty new features to play with. Google Now, a voice assistant similar to Apple's Siri, will give the weather, nearby restaurants, and even the traffic reports. Project Butter enhances the frame rate and utilizes power more efficiently so that the entire interface runs without the stutters that were noticeable in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
A new notifications panel wil allow users to return calls and emails straight from the panel itself. Enhanced camera features such as filters and one-take video recording should make the Galaxy S3's excellent zero-lag camera even more appealing.
The Jelly Bean update also introduces ISIS, a mobile payment system that will turn "phones into mobile wallets to make payments wirelessly at various retailers." The ISIS update will initially only apply to Galaxy S3 users in Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City.

Other major national carriers Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T have all already released Jelly Bean for their respective Galaxy S3s. U.S. Cellular still hasn't announced its Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean plans.
