LG G5 alleged leaks from China have come out, and the highly anticipated device could be one of the most advanced in the market with eye-scanning technology, 21 MP camera and a 5.6-inch display.

According to Techno Buffalo, the LG G5 could be a big contender against Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7. For a while now, the South Korean tech giant's flagship phone, the Galaxy S7, has dominated the rumor mill, but because of a tipster "Zealer" on Chinese social media site Weibo, the trend could very well change.

According to the tipster, the LG G5 could feature a 5.6-inch display with a 2K resolution, which when compared to the current G4, is a whole 0.1 inch larger, considerably placing it in phablet territory.

Other LG G5 leaked specs include a Snapdragon 820 chip and two varieties of biometric scanners, one of which is a fingerprint reader and the other one an iris scanner. The fingerprint scanner has reportedly been missing from last year's flagship G4. However, it was curiously included weeks ago during the launch of the LG V10.

As noted by Tech Radar, if the aforementioned rumored speccs prove true, the biggest surprise will be the iris scanner. This is for the reason that iris scanning isn't as common in Windows phones with Microsoft's 'Hello' camera nowadays. The more common biometric scanner this year is fingerprint scanning, which has become a standard on flagship smartphones. Iris scanning has reportedly caused phones to lag when a user logs in, so this could be a tricky feature to pull off for LG.

Techno Buffalo also mentioned that the new eye-scanning technology of the LG G5 has been reported before, and that the tech could come from small Korean firm IRIENCE.

There are also expectations that the phone/phablet will be powered with an Adreno 530 GPU, a welcome upgrade from G4's Adreno 418 with Snapdragon 808.

As for the LG G5 camera, the device will reportedly sport a 21 MP rear-facing camera, an upgrade from the 8 MP found on the G4. However, the Weibo tipster reportedly claimed that the phone will only have a 5 MP main camera.

The LG G5 release date is expected in early February so as to be in sync with the Mobile World Congress, also according to the Weibo user. When compared to last year's release of the G4 in April, it is significantly earlier.

It appears that LG wants to get ahead of South Korean rival Samsung, which is expected to launch its flagship Galaxy S7 at the at Mobile World Congress in late February.

While the latest LG G5 rumors seem to make sense, it would pay to take a grain of salt with regards to the report since it came from Weibo.
