The "Little Mermaid" live action movie is already known to star "Kick Ass" actress Chloe Moretz. Now, new reports are revealing other details of the upcoming film, most recently about its main character.
It appears that the red hair of the "Little Mermaid" that '90s kids have come to love will not be appearing in the live action movie.
According to Metro, Moretz revealed the "Little Mermaid" hair color decision in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
The 18-year-old actress said that despite her wanting to dye her hair red for the part, she needed her hair to remain blonde.
As can be expected, many fans were outraged over the "Little Mermaid" live action movie hair color, with some even protesting and saying they will not be watching the film once it's shown in theaters.
The fan outrage may appear ridiculous, but as noted by The Inquisitr, the little mermaid's red hair is part of what made the Disney character an icon in Disney princesses.
Disney has begun making live action versions of their animated classics in recent years. Most of the remakes remained faithful to the classic versions, but with the new report, it seems that the movie's creators decided to erase any sign of Disney from the film.
Indeed, Moretz also explained in the interview that the creators of the "Little Mermaid" live action movie wanted to take the Hans Christian Andersen classic story route as opposed to the Disney animated classic route.
"We're going over the Hans Christian Andersen novels, so I'll actually have blonde hair," Moretz said. "We're making it progressive for women in this day and age."
Perhaps this news of the "Little Mermaid" live action movie taking on Andersen's version isn't as surprising as it sounds since Disney has been criticized over the years for their films that suggest women should change their physical appearance to impress men. In addition, critics are concerned with the impact of the films to little girls.
In addition, the "Little Mermaid" live action movie isn't a Disney remake at all, but a Universal one.
Meanwhile, it is expected that the movie won't be having a happy ending if the Hans Christian Anderson story is followed.
