Samsung has fired another bullet into Apple's glistening armor with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Muse. The Galaxy Muse is a portable MP3 player that hopes to compete with the likes of the iPod shuffle, and is compatible with the popular Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy Muse is shaped like a tiny pebble, comes with 4GB storage, and is said to deliver up to six hours of music playback. The Galaxy Muse comes in both Pebble Blue and Marble White - two colors Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners should be familiar with - and is priced at $49.99. The MP3 player connects to the handsets via USB-to-3.5mm headset jack cable.

"The Galaxy Muse expands the Samsung Galaxy product portfolio to offer music on-the-go in a compact and lightweight player, with songs shared directly from our award-winning smartphones," said Kevin Packingham, chief product officer at Samsung Mobile in a press release. "Muse is the latest example of Samsung delivering another outlet for content consumption across the entire spectrum of consumer electronics."

The Galaxy Muse can sync up to your Galaxy Note 2's or Galaxy S3's music with ease. All you have to do is download the Muse Sync app from either Google Play or Samsung apps.

Samsung hopes that this MP3 player will appeal to the tens of millions of Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners out there. Instead of having to carry a bulky 4.8-inch or 5.55-inch handset around, consumers can opt for the smaller Galaxy Muse, which comes with a clip that can easily attach to pockets or shirt sleeves, in order to listen to music.

Is the Galaxy Muse appealing? Or does Apple's iPod Shuffle still reign supreme?
