Was Charlie Sheen the mystery actor in the Hollywood blind item that emerged in the last few days?

The said "guessing game" involved a "lothario" of a playboy actor who had been diagnosed as HIV positive and may have infected a number of Tinseltown's female citizens.

And now, reports of Sheen having HIV have surfaced, leading to a flurry of speculations over the state of his health and that of his former partners. The rumors flew in the wake of the former "Two and a Half Men" star's impending interview, where he will be revealing personal information.

"NBC News announced Monday that Sheen will make a 'revealing personal announcement' in an exclusive, live sit-down interview on Tuesday with Matt Lauer, but did not provide further details," USA Today said. "A rep for Sheen has not responded to USA TODAY's request for comment."

"According to top Hollywood publicist and crisis manager Howard Bragman, he was approached by people close to Sheen six months ago to deal with the crisis, but never dealt with him directly," People reported.

Bragman said that he was told the actor has been getting treatment, and that a lot of those in his circle knew about it already.

"The interview could open up a lot of sympathy for him, but he has to be concerned about a fear of litigation from former sexual partners," the publicist said. "You don't take that lightly."

"It's been going on for quite awhile. He's not necessarily comfortable talking about it. It was very hard to get up the courage for him to talk about it," he added.

Further, it's been said that Sheen's former wife, Denise Richards, had known he was HIV positive "for a number of years," according to sources.

"He was infected after they divorced, and they haven't been intimate since," the insider told People in another update. "Neither she nor their daughters [Sam, 11, and Lola, 9] are HIV-positive."

It is said that the actor did not know how he acquired the disease.

The story first broke on the tabloid The National Enquirer, which had been told by a source that he had been intimate with "multiple partners since learning his HIV status without informing them of his potentially deadly HIV infection," MailOnline noted.

It was also reported that one of the women who was exposed to Sheen had settled with the 50-year-old actor after filing for civil action.

Additionally, Sheen reportedly paid $5million just to make sure that his ailment was kept secret.

"He was once the highest paid actor on television, earning a reported $1.8million per episode for his work on 'Two and a Half Men' during the show's eighth season," MailOnline recalled. "The actor has had numerous problems with drugs and alcohol over the years, and was ultimately fired from his role on Men when he demanded more money for his work following his third stint in rehab in a 12-month period."
