New York police are searching for a heavyset male suspected of shooting three men, one fatally, Monday morning in an early-morning altercation that began at a McDonald's.

One victim - identified as 43-year-old Angel Quinones - was shot in the head after he and two other males made their way through Penn Station. Authorities said a second man was shot in the neck and stomach while the third individual was shot in the leg.

The group was drinking coffee inside a nearby McDonald's around 6 a.m. EST when they were confronted by a well-known drug dealer who is known to peddle drugs out of the restaurant. An argument ensued and the victims began walking towards the subway entrance.

"[The shooter] had run to the car and grabbed his weapon," witness P.J. Basile told the New York Times. "He clacked his gun; that's when I was nervous and backed up." Authorities said the shooter and the victims do not have any known ties.

Witnesses say he and at least two other men were seen rushing to a silver sedan near the intersection 35th and 8th street soon after, according to the New York Daily News. First responders found Quinones dead on subway entrance steps. MTA officials closed the entranceway where he was found but did not report any other service disruptions.

"They were cool cats. They would just come down, get their methadone, a coffee and chill," said Edmund Pieters, a local group leader who knew the victims. "I don't know what happened. It's crazy. It's a whole new world down here at night.'

Pieters said the three men frequented the West Midtown Medical Group, which provides medical and psychiatric help for recovering addicts. Quinones and another of the victims had been attending since 2009.

NYPD investigators continue to search for the three individuals who fled the scene.
