Nexus devices had the privilege of being the first in line to receive the latest Android OS updates. Samsung's devices, even its flagship smartphones, have not yet received Marshmallow nearly two months after the update was released. However, reports said that the Galaxy S5 and S6 will indeed get updated, along with the Galaxy Note 4 and 5. It's only a matter of when.
"As usual, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S5, and Galaxy Note 4 will be pushed to users gradually, which means that the ETA will be different based on your phone model, region and carrier," Android Geeks said. "The South Korean company is usually releasing software updates both over-the-air and via KIES and the same will happen with Marshmallow."
Recently, it's been said that the S5 from Verizon is being readied for the Marshmallow test, as allegedly confirmed by the telecom company.
"While an official statement is yet to be released directly by the wireless retailer regarding the update, the site has published posts regarding the testing process that the device will go through, as well as a certification process to guarantee the use of the best quality software," Yibada noted.
Once the testing is completed, the update will finally be rolled out, although it's not clear when that will happen. Some have speculated a November release, although Verizon has not confirmed any dates.
"Android 6.0 Marshmallow software is confirmed rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones under Verizon with model number SM-G900V in the first quarter of 2016," Venture Capital Post said. "The device currently runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop software version. There is no official statement from the mobile carrier yet if it is releasing the final Lollipop update."
In case your phone is running a custom ROM or had changed your OS in sme way, the update can only be installed via ODIN. The ones running an official Android build are the only devices that can receive Marshmallow via KIES or OTA, Android Geeks said.
Android 6.0 comes with a slew of features that aim to improve your mobile experience, with the app permissions system helping users filter app updates and the Doze Mode saving precious battery juice. Then there's Google Now On Tap, which can give you information you need based on your activities. Fingerprint support and Android Pay are other new features also included in Marshmallow.
