Many Galaxy S3 owners worldwide have already received their Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update - with some notable exceptions here in the United States. Canadian Galaxy S3 owners had been left out of the loop, until now. Starting today, Dec. 3, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean has begun rolling out to Galaxy S3s in Canada.
The Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update is firmware version I747MVLDLK4. The upgrade is available to Galaxy S3s on networks Bell, Telus, Sasktel, and Rogers. Users can grab Jelly Bean through OTA, Samsung's KIES software, or by heading over to www.samfirmware.com.
The update might not be available to everybody at the start, as Android updates tend to release in waves. Be sure to check daily to see when your handset can be upgraded.
The upgrade to Jelly Bean means that Galaxy S3 users will experience smoother interface performance thanks to Google's Project Butter, which ups the frames per second to 60 for silkier transitions. Jelly Bean also introduces Google Now, which acts as a voice assistant much like Apple's Siri. Google Now can give you the weather forecast for the day and will even tell you long your morning commute will take.
For Galaxy S3 users in the United States, there isn't much new news. The only carriers to have released an Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update are still Sprint and T-Mobile. The two largest networks in the United States, Verizon and AT&T, are still no shows, although there have been leaked ROMS that indicate their builds are close to completion. Carrier U.S. Cellular has also been silent.
